Film it Yourself – Lowlands, The Netherlands 2009 #ll09

Mobypicture joins forces with the VPRO (Dutch Public Broadcaster) in a very interesting and promising joint venture which is called ‘Film It Yourself’.
The dutch audience can read a little about it in the Parool here.

During the biggest dutch music festival last week in The Netherlands, Lowlands, we had over 50 people videoing 5 concerts with their mobile phones. These recordings were synchronised to a professional sound recording of each concert and are now the official 3v12 concert registration.

Proof of concept

These are all proof of concepts for now. Where we are trying to take this concept, is:

1. People share their adventures with their friends using Moby connecting it to an event (using hashtags, geofencing or signup to designate the content to the event)
2. Moby collects and generically encodes the content from an event, like a concert and uses timestamps, exif data and photo/video/audio recognition to synchronize all the bits.
3. Editors (can be amateurs as well!) can then use the collective content to create a very unique document telling the bigger story.

Only the first of these three steps is ready from a technological view. The other two steps need to be developed and we’re looking for partners and money for this.

For the Lowlands festival the VPRO designated two full time editors to encode the received content and make the edit.
We filmed the following concerts:

1. Passion Pit

2. Zwart Licht
3. Health http://bit.ly/1ld5q
4. Jack Penate (online soon)
5. Aus Raux http://bit.ly/3ISasJ

Earlier this year we also did a FIY session for the hiphop orchestra Kyteman during Pinkpop.
This also was a blast! See the results below:

Special thanks to Ron van der Sterren, who ran his ass off during the event, he and his team edited every concert within a day and saved me when I almost missed my ride back to Amsterdam.
