Real-time web -> trusted web

Real-time web -> trusted web

This is a reply to calling-bs-on-the-real-time-web I started typing a reply to Alexander his blog post and it got pretty long, so I decide to publish it here... My reply: I think you're right about the fact that there is a lot of irrelevant chatter on Twitter, Facebook or any other social network. But there is a far larger amount of irrelevant blogposts, outdated news, chatroom BS, etc. on the web. Actually 99.9999999% of the web is irrelevant to me. The challenge lies in getting that 0,0000001% and I strongly believe that the real-time web or real-time search will be a step forward. Why? Because formulating my search helps me define what I need. Then search algorithm will box information which should be accessable enough for me to grasp. Websites like Tweetmeme or Twitter trending topics help me filter and many more of these will come. The social and realtime web are enabling us to define trusted rings of people and opinions and that is really helpful. Maybe we should start talking about the trusted web instead of the realtime web.But then again I don't want to label things! Trending topics just now were: Happy Canada Day, Michael Jackson, Public Enemies, Firefox 3, MJ's, Goodnight, #iranelection, Transformers 2, ...

Animasher shows potential of product placement

Animasher shows potential of product placement

When picking up Mobypicture's award at the Red Herring event recently, I bumped into Martin Jacobson, a fellow award winner with his funny Do-It-Yourself (DIY) animation website, the Stockholm, Sweden-based startup Animasher. The site itself enables you to quickly build your own cartoons, with an in-depth tutorial. You simply drag and drop objects around the frame, add background, text, music, special effects, and/or speech. Adjust them individually for time and placement, save, and there you go, you have your animation. The Shared Sound Effects include whacky collection sounds (including horse neigh, keys ringing, birds chirping, women screaming and much more) and these can be added to special effects in the movie itself. A cool site, but what's really new about Animasher is that Martin has come up with some clever ways of sourcing additional revenue - product placement and licencing. The idea is that props used in the cartoon can be clearly branded by interested companies. So, for example, a bottle of wine, or item of clothing, used by a character in the animation, might be labelled or commercialised and thereby used to bring in revenue via the individually negotiated deals. Animasher is also licencing technology to online ...

Berlin, March 23, 2009 – Red Herring today announced that Mobypicture was named a Finalist of Red Herring 100 Europe, an award given to the top 100 private technology companies based in the EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) region each year. "Nice to see 4 mobile dutch startups in the finals... from which 3 are about social sharing and connecting. Feature updates: Moby Mobile, comment Tweeting, favicons and more

The last two weeks a lot of improvements to the platform were made. Moby Mobile Most important one is bringing back the mobile site. We're launching this today! We tried to make the mobile site as basic and fast as possible. Right now it is optimized for the iPhone, and we're really interested in your feedback! Tweets "A picture is worth more than 140 characters", a wiseman said. We added some more Twitter integration. If you have setup your Twitter account on Moby we present you with a checkbox at the comments section. You can decide if you also want to post your comment to Twitter. We also added a retweet option in the right side of the posting view page. Faviconz Using the favi.co.nz API we automatically add the favicon (that's the nice icon in front of the url in your browser) of the links you add in your postings. Third party integrations This week also some new websites and apps added Mobypicture support: - PowerTwitter is showing the Mobypicture inline - Twitstat and Slandr now use our API to show you posted Mobies - Pixelpipe has integrated Moby posting support (Android and iPhone clients) - Twittelator is showing Mobies in their iPhone client - Twibble finished integration and will put a new ...

Mobypicture update

This week Mobypicture launched the new redesigned website, adding many new features and optimizing the performance. The whole website runs on Amazon Web Services. (S3 and Cloudfront). This helps us a lot with scaling and capacity. The launch of the platform is the first step towards Moby 2.0, the version we will launch in February which adds many, many platforms and will have a lot of surprises and sophisticated connections. We're also really proud the Mobypicture iPhone App version 1.0 was finally accepted and released in the Apple iTunes Stores. Joris Kluivers of Tarento did a great job and was persistent to get this first version in the store. We had a good meeting this week about the next version, which will have a lot more features. Please download it and put up a good review! The Mobypicture API is also greatly enhanced this week. We've added the possibility to also add location, tags, hashtags and define to which services you want the posting to be published. Also the GET options are more sophisticated now. The new version of the API is of course also downwards compatible so all services will still be working! If you want to get your own dev key, please ...

Moby server troubles

Over the last few days we've had some annoying server troubles at Mobypicture. We're in the middle of migrating most of our hosting to Amazon Webservices, because we need a nice scalable solution. We hoped to have launched our new platform by now, then this trouble wouldn't have occured. This weekend we'll work on a Moby 1.5 site. This site will be hosted on a different server and will have the basics of the new design and parts of the streamlined technology we are also using for Moby 2.0. We'll keep you up to date on Twitter (@mathys, @mobypicture) Sorry for the inconvenience! Your patience will be rewarded...
